pacc3 GOOD TO KNOW

Will this work with my existing fittings?

Most of our indoor pieces use standard fittings. The exact fitting is listed in the product details, so check there before you order.

Can I use it outside?

Anything in the outdoor range is weather rated. Indoor pieces are not, so keep those under cover.

Is it dimmable?

Dimmable pieces are marked in the product details. If it is not marked, treat it as fixed output.

No Switch To Remember

A light sensor does the deciding. The panel charges through the day, the light comes on at dusk and goes off at dawn, so nothing needs setting and nothing needs turning off on a cold morning.

A Marker, Not A Floodlight

Two LEDs and five lumens. It shows you where a step edge or a path boundary is after dark. It does not light the ground you walk on, and spacing several along a route works far better than one.

Frequently Asked Questions

How bright is it, really?

Two LEDs putting out five lumens, which the manufacturer states plainly and so do we. That makes it a marker light rather than a working light: it shows you where a step edge or the line of a path is, without lighting the ground itself. Space three or four along a route for the effect to work. For genuine output, the Beacon spotlight is the one to look at.

Where can I actually mount it?

Almost anywhere, because three kits come in the box. The screw set takes it onto concrete, a decking board or a stair tread. The ground plug pushes into soil, a lawn or sand. The long pole suits a flower pot, a railing or a fence post. You can change your mind a season later and remount it without buying a single extra part.

Does it need switching on every night?

No. A light sensor handles it, so the panel charges through the day and the light comes on at dusk and off again at dawn on its own. There is a slide switch inside the body, reached by twisting the body off the base, but that is a master on and off rather than a nightly job. If it will not light indoors, that is the sensor doing its job.

Will it survive a British winter?

The body is ABS and PS rated IP65, so rain and snow are within its range and it is built to stay outside. What changes in winter is the run time, not the weatherproofing. Eight to ten hours of light assumes eight to ten hours of bright sun to charge it, which December does not provide, so expect a much shorter evening from it then.

How long does it run on one charge?

The manufacturer quotes eight to ten hours from a full charge, with that charge taking eight to ten hours of bright sunlight. Read the top of that range as a midsummer best case. On a grey week the panel simply will not bank as much, and the light will fade earlier in the evening. That is true of every solar light, not a fault with this one.

Specifications and full description

What it does

A small solar cap light that comes on by itself. A light sensor watches the daylight, so it charges through the day and lights at dusk without a switch, a timer or a decision from you.

The manufacturer quotes eight to ten hours of charging in bright sunlight and eight to ten hours of light from it. In a British summer that is most of the evening; in midwinter, on a run of grey days, expect noticeably less.

Three ways to mount it, in one box

This is the useful part. The same light ships with three mounting kits: a screw set for a hard surface such as a concrete step or a decking board, a ground plug for soil, sand or a lawn, and a long pole for a flower pot, a railing or a fence post.

It means you can move it a season later without buying anything. Mark the edge of a step this year, put it on the gatepost next year.

Brightness, honestly

Two LEDs and five lumens. That is a marker light, and it is worth being blunt about it: this shows you where the edge of a step or the line of a path is, it does not light the ground you are walking on. Buy several and space them along a route, or buy the Beacon if you want a spotlight that actually throws light.

Built for outside

An ABS and PS body rated IP65, so rain and snow are within range. The body twists off the base to reach the slide switch inside, which is also how you change the mounting kit. If it does not light when you first switch it on, take it somewhere dark: the light sensor will keep it off in a bright room.

The manufacturer’s listing gives the solar panel as 3.7V in one place and 5V in another, and describes the cell as both lithium-ion and Ni-MH. We quote the panel wattage and the battery type it states most clearly and leave the rest out. Battery capacity is not published, so we do not quote it.
