Firefly Light, Not Path Light

Ten bulbs on flexible stems sway in the wind, reading as points of light drifting above your planting. It is a decorative piece and behaves like one — pair it with a spotlight if you need to see the ground.

Nothing To Wire Or Switch

The panel charges through the day and a built-in sensor lights the bulbs at dusk and cuts them at dawn. No cable along the fence, no plug, no switch to find in the dark, nothing added to the bill.

Built For A British Winter

An IP65 rating with PVC bulbs and ABS components means rain, frost and dust are all within range. Shorter winter days mean shorter run times, but the lights themselves stay out year round.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do they stay lit each night?

Six to twelve hours from a full charge on eight hours of direct sun. Expect the top of that range through the summer and the bottom of it in midwinter, when there simply is not enough daylight to fill the cell. That is a charging limit rather than a fault, and it affects every solar light of this kind.

Do they need a plug or batteries?

Neither. The panel charges a 1.2V 600mAh Ni-MH AA cell that is already fitted, and a sensor switches the bulbs on at dusk and off at dawn. There is nothing to wire in, no plug, no switch to find in the dark and no batteries to buy now or in two years time.

Can I leave them out in winter?

Yes. They are rated IP65, with PVC bulbs on ABS components, so rain, frost and dust are all within range. The only winter limitation is charging rather than damage: short grey days mean shorter run times. If you want them at their best, move the panel to the sunniest spot you have before December.

Are they bright enough to light a path?

No, and we would rather say so plainly. These are decorative firefly lights, meant to be looked at from a distance rather than to show you the ground. For a lit route use a spotlight or a proper path light, and let these do the atmosphere behind it. The two together is the usual answer.

Where should the solar panel go?

Somewhere that genuinely sees the sky for most of the day. Under a tree canopy, a deep eave or against a north-facing wall it will not take enough charge to run properly after dark, and you will assume the light is faulty when it is only hungry. Move the panel before you conclude anything.

Specifications and full description

What it is

Ten small LED bulbs on flexible stems across a five metre run, planted in a border or a pot so they sit above the planting rather than in it. In the wind they move, which is the whole point: from across a garden they read as points of light drifting over the bed rather than a row of fixed lamps.

It is decorative light and it behaves like one. This will not show you where you are walking, and we would rather say so here than have you find out on a dark path in February.

It switches itself on and off

A built-in sensor lights the bulbs at dusk and cuts them at dawn, so there is nothing to remember and nothing to reach for in the dark. Eight hours of direct sun for a full charge and six to twelve hours of light from it.

In practice that means the full dark hours of a June night and a short evening in December. Shorter winter run times are a charging limit, not a fault.

Outside all year

Rated IP65, with PVC bulbs on ABS components, so rain, frost and dust are all within range. The stems are meant to be bent into shape once and then left alone; repeated re-bending is what eventually breaks this type of light, not the weather.

Where it works

Borders, pots, along the base of a fence, either side of a path, or threaded through a shrub you want to pick out after dark. The one thing that matters is the panel: give it a spot that genuinely sees the sky. Under a tree canopy or a deep eave it will not take enough charge to run properly.

Lumen output is not confirmed, so we do not quote it. The specification panel also lists the light source as halogen while the description says 10 LED; the bulbs are LED.

Very nice, I ordered three of them, they turn off when you approach the light, so they won't just sit there "for no reason", the light is nice and warm, they look more expensive than they actually are, I recommend them!

These are so cute! Love the color and how it looks like fireflies when the wind blows.

S

Works well. Easy to charge and very pretty in garden. They only stay lit for a couple of hours. You need many to create anything dramatic

G
Gilbert McGlynn

They work just fine. These are always a little tricky to get the shape you want. Take your time.

E
Ellena Gutmann

A little smaller then i though they were gonna be but they are very cute im gonna get a couple more

L
Lyle Kutch

Good-quality product for a good price. The stake for the lights is made of metal. Construction seems heavy-duty. The on/off switch is sealed for moisture as it should be. Efficient, attractive lighting.
